            The preeminent educational Institution Krishnasamy College of Education for Women was established in the academic year 2005-2006 catering to the needs of Teacher Education for Women. The College provides education, especially for socially and economically backward downtrodden women. It intended to empower the women graduates by providing a better teaching-learning environment and their harmonious development in personal and professional life. 

            Quality education is the major goal of the College, and hence the College has taken a lot of effort to the maintained best administrative and academic process. It has also marched towards the vision "Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education". It creates a facilitative teaching-learning environment with various impetuses to achieve the academic excellence of the learners. The College offers excellent service for prospective teachers who will shoulder the nation's young generation studying in schools. It integrates the new pedagogical practice through technology and leverages creativity in education. The College follows formal and informal peer-tutoring and assessment in its pedagogical practices, leading to self-learning and self-evaluation among the learners. The College also inculcates the sprint of inquiry in learning. Moreover, the College provides a platform for sensitizing social values through various internships, camps, national level programs, and aspiring budding teachers to serve the nation generously.

ADMINISTRATIVE PERSPECTIVES

            The Krishnasamy College of Education for Women has rich educational practices including academic as well as administration. The College has democratic organizational culture through various committees for its effective functioning. The committees constituted are "Time Table and Attendance maintenance Committee; Examination and Academic Calendar preparation committee; admission and placement committee; Conference and workshop committee; Student and Staff Development committee; Linkage and Project Committee; Student Grievance Redressal Committee; Publication Committee" and so on. Each committee is soul responsible and active in enriching the development of the College. Monthly once the staff meeting is regularly conducted for quality improvement of academic and administrative process of the College. The output of the meeting is making a join responsibility of individuals as it is decided by all the staff members of the College in democratic manner. The statutory bodies meetings such as the College Governing Council meeting, Inspection of various higher authorized bodies, management meetings, staff development meetings, IQAC meetings, Student-development meetings, etc are regularly conducted for the quality concern. The College systematically organizes and reports State, Central and National bodies programmes and projects.



ACADEMIC PERSPECTIVES

            The Institution follows a well-structured curriculum framed by Pondicherry University. For the effective transaction of the curriculum, the College created various committees. The academic year usually starts for regular classes, inaugural programme, orientation programme and parents' meetings. Formal orientation of the vision and mission of the College and B.Ed. and B.Sc.B.Ed., programmes are briefed.
The College organises an orientation programme for one week for newly joined students to familiarise themselves with the entire curriculum activities of B.Ed., and B.Sc.B.Ed., program where the perspective courses, pedagogy of school subjects, enhancement of professional capacity (EPC), CCE, internship programme, and teaching practice were explained in detail.

            The College follows best practices in transacting the curriculum as a system. The effective transaction has done by allotting two or three faculty members to each course paper. The full course has 4 credits and 2 credits half-courses, and non-credit papers were systematically organised with respect to their weightage. Apart from these, special periods and allotted for soft skill development programmes, SUPW, music and association activities, including the library.

            As stated in the mission, the College is to emerge as a centre of excellence in teacher education. The faculty members have prepared content-synopsis for all courses in English and Tamil and distributed to the students for their preparatory work. The College has E-CONTENT material and posted in the college website for students' reference. Apart from these, the College has provided book-bank books and library books to them.

            The College has provided all the facilities for emerging excellence in the teaching profession to the student-teachers. The CCE was organised by different modes. The evaluation was carried out by task and assignment, as well as formative and summative assessment. Class tests, unit tests, and model exams were rigorously administered to instill confidence in student-teachers in their ability to face the examination. Remedial teaching was given to the student-teachers to improve their academic performance based on the students' performances. Some of the regular processes and events of the colleges are


KRISH CHRONICLE

            The College has proud at functioning all the curricular and co-curricular activities at the best level, and all the students and staff members were regular in their activities. All the activities are documented and published as the college Newsletter "Krish Chronicle" and same newsletter also uploaded on the college website. 



ACADEMIC CALENDAR

            The academic calendar is prepared to implement the academic programme and other activities. The college academic calendar is the plan for directing the curricular and extra-curricular activities of the College. The calendar is made based on UGC, Pondicherry University and School Academic Calendars and ensures that no programme will be leftover without attention. The days of events, national and international days, the commencement of the academic year, days of the school visit, field visit, teaching practice, teaching practice review meeting, model examinations, community living camps, annual day, sports day, etc. are meticulously listed in the calendar.

PROJECTs UNDERTAKEN

  • Nationwide Competition to Create Awareness about the Legal Rights of Women. As per the direction of the National Commission for Women, (N.C.W) New Delhi through the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education, Puducherry, The Krishnasamy College of Education for Women, Puducherry organized the project Awareness about the Legal Rights of Women- 2017 and received Rs.28,500/- with the fund sponsored by NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR WOMEN, New Delhi.
  • NCW -LAP 2019 Project - The Krishnasamy College of Education for Women, Puducherry organized National Level Legal Awareness Programme (LAP 2019) funded Rs. 90,000/- by National Women Commission New Delhi, 2019-20 was conducted on 4th March 2020.

CONDUCTING NATIONAL LEVEL WORKSHOP/SEMINAR AND AWARENESS PROGRAMS

            The College organized National Seminar and various Workshops every year. Student and staff members were motivated to participate in the programme for their professional development, and prizes and certificates were distributed for presenters and participants. 

NATIONAL SEMINAR AND JOURNAL PUBLICATION: 
Organization of National Seminars on various current topics is a regular phenomenon in the College. The National Seminar brings collaboration with other institutions, knowledge transaction, critical analysis about the topics, discussion, student-teacher participation, presentation skills, moderation by resource persons, and sharing experiences. Experts' judgment and output publication are also other benefits the faculty and student teachers are receiving from the College.

EXTENSION ACTIVITY:
KCED with full pledged qualified faculty member with long academic service and Ph.D qualification is in the position to conduct the extension activities. Conducting an in-service programme to school teachers on CCE, classroom management, constructivism, guidance and counselling, emotional and stress management, child rights education, mental health, etc. is being undertaken.

GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL

The College has a grievance redressal committee that addresses genuine complaints, issues, and difficulties of students, staff, staff and parents at an individual. Students are encouraged to use the suggestion/feedback box to express constructive suggestions and grievances. The Grievance redressal committee resolves complaints and grievances with sensitivity and confidentiality.

STAFF WELFARE SCHEMES

The Krishnasamy College of Education for Women has a well-organized structure and it has staff development committee which take care of all the needs of teaching and non-teaching staff. Apart from this, the College provide staff welfare scheme to both teaching and non-teaching staff such as Employee Providential fund, Maternity benefits as per norms, Child Care leave, and free transport.

 

FOR STUDENTS

PEER TUTORING AND REMEDIAL TEACHING: An innovative method of peer tutoring and remedial teaching is practiced in the College. Based on a diagnostic test, student teachers are classified into 3 categories: above average, average, and below average. Peer groups are formed with 10 members in each group consists of 2from above average, 6 from average and 2 from below average students. Every week two periods are allotted for peer tutoring. During such periods, the peer group meets formally and informally and discusses the topic covered in the week and clarifies the doubts. Every year the peer groups are named in the names of rivers, women achievers etc.


STUDENT COUNCIL AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES: The student representative elections are conducted for every academic year to elected the representative, the students' Chairman, the Vice chairman, the Secretary, the Joint – secretary, the Co-operative secretary and the Co-operative Joint-secretary from B.Ed and B.Sc.B.Ed. programme by adopting general and preferential voting method in pedagogical subject -wise. They act as an ambassador between student teachers and faculty members. Moreover, they arrange weekly meetings during the communication skill development period. All the student teachers are getting equal opportunities in expressing their own ideas, talents and other exceptional skills. These students formed a council and successfully demonstrated their way of life.

SPECIAL TRAINING PROGRAMMES:  Over and above the regular teaching-learning programmes, experts from different educational institutions and other organizations are invited to conduct special training on the following aspects a) SmartBoard b) Yoga c) Craft d) Identification of learning difficulties and e) Spoken language etc.,  

PROGRAMME FOR COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS:  The Institution organises coaching classes for competitive examinations every year in a systematic manner for the benefit of the student-teachers. The coaching is offered for TET (Teacher Eligibility Test).

CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY: To inculcate the habit of self-help for mutual benefit, non- profit-making attitude and service mindedness among the student teachers, a co-operative store is establishes and managed by the women student teachers. All faculty members and student teachers contributed one-time share capital of Rs.10/- each. The consumer products are sold at reasonable rates. Every year annual dividend is given to the members. Pedagogical subject-wise managing committee members are elected, and in turn they maintain accounts, purchase, sales and stock.

ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT
The College has Alumni Association functioning systematically. Old students those completed B.Ed. Programme in the College are acting as the members of this Alumni's Association. Every year Alumni meeting is being conducted in the College.

ANNUAL SPORTS MEET: The annual sports meet is conducted every year and student teachers participate in various indoor and outdoor games and track and field events. Finally, an individual championship rolling shield is given to the student teacher.

LITERARY AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES: Literary and cultural activities are conducted regularly in the College (elocution, essay writing, poem writing, dance, music, Kolam, craftworks etc.,). In the annual competitions, most of the students participate and get many prizes and certificates. An individual championship rolling shield is given to the student-teacher.

CELEBRATION OF ALL NATIONAL AND RELIGION FESTIVAL:  The religious festivals are organised by the concerned student teachers belong to religion and speak on the significance and importance of such functions and exchange greetings among all the students to promote secularism, to develop the feelings of oneness and to respect all religions.

FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
ECO CLUB : As the College is in an 8.8-acre campus surrounded by breeze flowering, environmental awareness among the student is regularly created. In this direction, the assistance for Rs. 5000/- of the Puducherry Government, the College established an ECO club in the academic year 2019-20. The various activities conducted by the Eco-club to promote environmental consciousness.

GREEN GARDENING PROGRAM
The College motivates both the student-teachers and teaching and non-teaching staff to practise home gardening and chemical-free fertilizer use. Hence, the College practises green gardening on the college campus with the full participation of all the staff members, student teachers, and non-teaching staff. FOR THE SOCIETY

Social responsibility towards the villages around the College such as maintaining road traffic at the festival season, Volunteering in clean religious places, adapting villages, etc are organized regularly.

CONDUCTING AWARENESS PROGRAMS: Every year, the College conducts many awareness programmes for both students and nearby villages. Water conservation, a plastic-free environment, use of single-use plastic, dengue, oral hygiene, and tobacco eradication awareness programmes were conducted in every academic year. Also, the College follows Swachh Bharat Mission and state government-declared programmes. Community living camps were regularly organized every year.

BLOOD DONATION: Blood donation is conducted every year in which faculty members and student teachers donate blood as a sign of value development by helping the needy. In the academic year of 2014-2015, 36 units were donated.

MEDICAL CAMP:  To maintain a healthy rapport between the community and College, the dental camp is conducted every year to benefit the nearby people. The dentist from nearby colleges participates and gives treatment to villagers and the student teachers.

BEST PRACTICES
  • 1. Assembly: Everyday prayer is conducted by the student teachers, and they play major roles in conducting different activities in the assembly programme- flag hosting, pledge, daily kural, thought for the day, daily news and discussion, etc., on a rotation basis.
  • 2. Birthday wishes: The student teachers and faculty members wish and share their birthday greetings.
  • 3. Green gardening: Student teachers are getting environmental oriented training
  • 4. Felicitation to retiring teachers: The felicitation functions are organized to appreciate the services of the retiring teachers.
  • 5. The teacher's services are recognised and appreciated on time to boost the morale of the faculty member. The publication, completion of Ph.D. work and other appreciable work.
